Nothing like a little eBay bidding war. That I lost. Anyway,
This proto showed up on eBay in 2000 along with Duck Tales and Street Fighter 2010. This one
was won by Kap - who generously dumped the cart for all of us to enjoy.
This is my personal
favorite of all 287,358 Mega Man games on the market. Getting to fight all of the robots from BOTH this
game as well as all of the robots from Mega Man 2. The gameplay, well... come on, if you haven't
played Mega Man by this point, why are you reading this page? You KNOW how the game plays. This is
the Beta version of the english release, and I'm sure you'd all rather hear what's different.

| Unfortunately, the answer as far as that is "not a whole
hell of a lot." There really are two noticable differences between this beta and the final, released
version. As you can see to the left, one difference is when the Protoman "whistle" theme music is playing.
Mega Man will stay in his last position, firing or standing, instead of just staying standing. The
only other difference we have found with the game is
pictured to the right - on the completion screen of
Top Man's level, half of Mega Man's helmet is
displayed incorrectly. |

While this may not be the
most interesting prototype ever found, at least it has
been dumped for the public at large instead of rotting in
the closet of a hoarder. This, most likely, was a 'final' sample
sent out to a magazine for review. Even the "super
jump" cheat is present in this version. (hold RIGHT on controller #2 and
Mega Man can jump the length of the entire screen) Although, then again,
this was a game already released in Japan, so how different could the
prototype really have been?
