One of the final releases
for the Sega Genesis, Comix Zone is one of those games
that really didn't get the exposure that it deserved. It
was a very unique beat-em-up that had a heavy comic book
theme to it. Unfortunately, that alone probably
contributed to its downfall - in this stupid society in
the US, just the mere mention of a comic book will
destroy any possible success that anything will have. The
"kiddie" stigma of even mentioning the words "comic
book" in a sentance destroyed a great movie - Unbreakable,
in where you hear people talk about "Oh it was ok until
they started doing that comic book stuff" - as well as
this game. If you're one of these people, find the
release version of this ROM and give it another try
without your usual mental hatred of anything comic book
related. |

This beta ROM is very close
to the release version in many ways with one major
addition - when you open the "Options" screen there is a
DEBUG menu present! This will allow you to start at any
point in the game that you want - including level, page,
and panel. Now, I must admit that I was pretty bad at
this game and never made it to the final levels of the
game, but using the level select, many of the final levels
do not contain normal enemies, leaving me to believe this
is a rather early beta that is not finished - possibly a
magazine review copy, but perhaps an internal testing
beta. Unfortunately, the owner as well as the dumper remain anonymous and
there's no one that we can ask about the origins of this cart.

Yeah, I know this review may
sound a little harsh to the general public, but the
consensus among people around the internet is that this
game "is that stupid Sega comic book game" judged by
people who never played the damn thing. Give the final
game a try - it's a LOT better than you think it will be
(albeit a bit hard) or come here to get the version with
the built in level select...
