One of my favorite unreleased games for the Atari 2600, I must
play this one as well as it's remake, A-Team, on my Cuttle Cart more than any other game. Honestly,
the emulators just cannot do this game justice - it plays a whole lot smoother and easier using
an Atari joystick on the console. Anyway, Saboteur is an unreleased game by the same person
who designed Yars' Revenge and Raiders of the Lost Ark - and if it was released, probably
would have surpassed those two games in sales and popularity. It is unknown why this game never
saw the light of day, but we do know that this version of the game was shelved in order to
turn it into a game using the A-Team liscense. The Crash of '83 may have done the rest. For
all intents and purposes, this game plays exactly the same as the A-Team version, so if you need
some gameplay help, head over to that review.

There are at least three different revisions of this prototype
that have been found. This version appears to be the most complete of the two "Saboteur" versions,
and then there is the A-Team version. The other known version is owned by Tempest,
and it is quite a bit earlier than this one. The rocket in the beginning of the game does not
have the name of the game on it, and the levels advance sequentially, instead of skipping if
you succeed in the goal on the current stage. Word for the future is that Tempest will be
releasing his prototype games through his webpage 8-Bit Rot
in the future, so let's hope for the best!

It's a shame that the sudden haste of Atari to convert this
game into the A-Team may have caused its demise, but at least the game didn't go unseen. Thanks
to the generous dumping of the cart, this great game can be played in many ways depending
on your taste - whether that be the Cuttle Cart, a Hozer Video reproduction, or emulation.
Give it a try! You won't be disappointed...
