What the hell? I always
thought these diagnostics cartridges were supposed to be
easy to use?
Oh well, whatever. This is the only
2600 Test Cart that I've come across so far, and also one
of the most difficult that I've ever seen as far as usage
is concerned. Now to be fair, this cart probably came
packaged with a nice thick book describing its exact use,
what all the different functions of the Atari 2600 did to
the cart, and how to repair them. However, until such a
book surfaces and is released onto the internet, you're
stuck with me doing my usual half-assed blind
experimentation with Stella to see how to get this puppy
running. |

With every controller
movement and button press, different bars on the screen
will turn on and off. Both player one and player 2
controllers are tested by this cart. It's possible that
this may alson test the paddle controllers, however, due
to the limitations of MacStella, I was not able to test
that. Pressing the Color/B&W switch will flip between the
normal screen and a B&W test pattern. Also, by flipping
the player 1 difficulty switch, you can test the sound
channels by setting off what appears to be an air raid
siren. Be careful if you're doing this at night tho, this
is LOUD! |

Well, it's not a whole heck
of a lot more than your average test cart. I did get
quite a surprise when I was first testing this game at
about 3am and managed to find the cart's built in air raid
siren - it sent me jumping out of my chair and sent a
fluttering, screeching ball of feathers flying across the
room that was a moment before that my happily sleeping
parakeet that was on top of my computer. Use it late at night to scare
your family and friends!
