This game is really quite surprising. While the gameplay really isn't
quite complete, and there are many bugs abound in the game, it's quite suprising that the programmers
were able to squeeze this much graphical power out of the Atari VCS. Anyway, this game made its debut
at the 2001 PhillyClassic to quite a few warm reviews. After a very poorly timed April Fools Joke by
the fine people at Digital Press that caused quite a stir around
many a retrogaming messageboard, and a bit of hype, this prototype was released at the 2001 Classic Gaming
Expo, complete with label, manual, and box. It's also worth noting that there was never a prototype
cartridge found of this cart - thanks to John Hardie and Sean Kelly meeting up with the game's designer,
the carts (as well as this ROM) were created from the original source code of the game.

Like I stated above, this is an incredible graphic accomplishment for
the old 2600 - the main character is detailed, and there is a lot of scrolling and animation for a
2600 game. Now, don't come in expecting the arcade game here people - but for the system, this is quite
excellent. The game itself seems quite early in development - taking a stab at it, I'd have to say the
game is about 50% complete. The bugs, unfortunately, are numerous. To start, the elevator will not automatically
come up to the rooftop. Holding UP on the controller will bring the elevator up to you. Also, on the rooftop,
holding down the JUMP button will cause your character to do his best Superman impression and make him
fly up into the air. (you will have to reset after this one) Your player does not automatically come down after jumping
- you have to press down to make him come down again. Other than this however, the rest of the gameplay
seems to be well on its way.

Rather impressive overall, despite the bugs. Another victim of the Crash,
this one didn't even have a chance to be completed. Now, completed or not, this probably would not
have been the definitive version of Elevator Action, however, as far as 2600 ports go, this would have
been one of the better ones had it seen release...
