Gee, does this look familiar
to anyone else?
At some point, the geniuses at
Atari decided to remake Stunt Cycle (another unreleased
prototye you'll find in my 2600 section here) into another
Dukes of Hazzard game. Now, if you've read my review of
the first version of the Dukes of Hazzard, you'll realize
that I really didn't like it that much. This one really
isn't that much better.
The simple fact is that if
you've tried Stunt Cycle, you've played this game as well
since the only changes are the General Lee and the Dukes
of Hazzard themed music. |
The gameplay on this game is
exactly the same as in Stunt Cycle. What you have to do
is control the speed of the General Lee to make it go fast
enough to get over the lake on the third level, but keep
it slow enough that it doesn't slam into the side of the
screen and explode. With every sucessful jump, the lake
will get wider and wider, making the jumps more
difficult.
Personally, I only find this game
amusing for about 3 minutes - unfortunately for Atari,
making the same jump over and over again with no variation
other than the difficulty does not make the most
entertaining game in the world. |

Apparently, in the
development of Stunt Cycle, they had developed a
controller which was intended only for that partucular
game that would resemble a motorcycle's handlebars,
complete with twisting grip to rev on the "gas." However,
its unclear if the same kind of controller would have been
developed for this game. Judging only from the fact that
this game involved a car rather than a motorcycle, it
seems unlikely that anything of that nature would be
developed for this game. Unfortunately, that put the game
at least a step and a half below the quality of most
Atari games, which looking back at some of the crap put
out around the time of the crash, isn't a good thing by
any means....
