Tom Barker 1991

"Oohhhh mannnnnn"! Tom Barker started
out on the Northwest Knights in 1985 with
Dave Levin. He co-managed the team with Dave
from 1986 to 1988, then singly when Dave
left to join our team. After the Knights
folded after the 1989 season, he joined our
team. He was not a good player, I can relate
many, I repeat MANY stories attesting to
that fact. On a scale of 1-100 (w/1 being
dead and 100 being Roy Hobbs) he rated a
15. Tom quit after an especially miserable
pitching (called pitching only because he
threw the ball off a mound in the general
direction of home plate) performance in Elgin
in 1991. On the positive side he had a good
sense of humor, often laughing at the stiffs
who showed up for tryouts, never realizing
that they were probably laughing at him as
well. But I will say that he was a fun guy
to have around.
